Summary

This is right about the time where this series grows up but (I think) before it becomes horribly commercial。I'm likely to never watch any of the movies, but I feel like the books have totally hit their stride and are a joy to read。 The main characters are developed and relatively smooth, but not predictable。The surroundings are clear--and followable in a Thomas Guide。 This is right about the time where this series grows up but (I think) before it becomes horribly commercial。I'm likely to never watch any of the movies, but I feel like the books have totally hit their stride and are a joy to read。 The main characters are developed and relatively smooth, but not predictable。The surroundings are clear--and followable in a Thomas Guide。 。。。more

Michael Connelly has to be one of the most consistent authors working today。 I don’t think I’ve encountered an author outside of maybe the first 20 books in the Spenser series by the late Robert Parker that cranks out fairly consistently high quality (for genre fiction) work。 This was another very strong one, maybe not top tier of the series but still really good。 It involves Bosch and his partner Rider investigating a cold case from 1988 about a murdered high school girl。 Good twists and turns Michael Connelly has to be one of the most consistent authors working today。 I don’t think I’ve encountered an author outside of maybe the first 20 books in the Spenser series by the late Robert Parker that cranks out fairly consistently high quality (for genre fiction) work。 This was another very strong one, maybe not top tier of the series but still really good。 It involves Bosch and his partner Rider investigating a cold case from 1988 about a murdered high school girl。 Good twists and turns with a bit of office politics (or whatever police officers use for that term) mixed in。 Good stuff。 。。。more

I enjoy anything Michael Connelly writes。

A lot of police work in this one as usual, but the killer was obvious to me from the beginning of the case。 Bosch wasn't his usual intuitive self。 A lot of police work in this one as usual, but the killer was obvious to me from the beginning of the case。 Bosch wasn't his usual intuitive self。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。

Right so I didn't acc finish this but listened to 10 out 12 hours of it whilst in the car on holiday so I'm counting it。 Safe to say it wouldn't have been my first choice of book to read and I did cringe a fair bit。 but I am sad that I never found out who the killer is and know I will never listen to the rest to find out。 Hoping dad will listen to the rest and tell me just for the closure lol。 Right so I didn't acc finish this but listened to 10 out 12 hours of it whilst in the car on holiday so I'm counting it。 Safe to say it wouldn't have been my first choice of book to read and I did cringe a fair bit。 but I am sad that I never found out who the killer is and know I will never listen to the rest to find out。 Hoping dad will listen to the rest and tell me just for the closure lol。 。。。more

Best yetI have to have read at least a dozen Harry Bosch novels but I think this was my favorite。 The many layers to the investigation were so intriguing, well thought out and believable。 A definite page turner。

Enjoyable read about Harry Bosch, the detective who has returned to LAPD after 3 years in retirement and ends up in the cold cases section。 Harry, as usual, sleuths around, trying to find the connections between a young girl who was killed (and found subsequently to be pregnant) and who would want to kill her and why。The ex-boyfriend is an immediate suspect, who seemingly was in Hawaii at the time and whom she seemed to want to avoid after he left。 Something about her untouched room, when Bosch Enjoyable read about Harry Bosch, the detective who has returned to LAPD after 3 years in retirement and ends up in the cold cases section。 Harry, as usual, sleuths around, trying to find the connections between a young girl who was killed (and found subsequently to be pregnant) and who would want to kill her and why。The ex-boyfriend is an immediate suspect, who seemingly was in Hawaii at the time and whom she seemed to want to avoid after he left。 Something about her untouched room, when Bosch goes to meet the mother, and a picture he saw of the same room at the time of the original investigation, troubles him all the way through the story。 As usual, we find his gut is always right。He spends much time looking for connections between all those in old school photos; he interviews the best friends, the father who disappeared subsequently etc。 At one point, with developments in DNA subsequent to the original investigation, he focuses in on a mechanic, who seems to meet all of the criteria of the killer。 But despite the evidence, Bosch thinks there is something he is missing。 He trails the mechanic for a lot of the book, trying to find what connects him back to her at High School。All the characters, at various times, come on the radar as possible suspects。 Finally, what has been bothering Bosch in the picture hits home and puts him on the track of the real killer。 It kept my interest all right。 Mind you, I had started watching Harry Bosch on TV before I picked up the book - and in some ways I prefer the TV series on Amazon Prime。 。。。more

The books in this series are amazing! You start reading them and the next thing you know you are 100 pages in。 All of them are solid well gold stories。This time Harry is back after a 3 year leave He works in open unsolved cases, this case is 17 years old and is about a 16 year teenager who was murdered。Fantastic book。

When I’ve been away awhile, I forget that the Bosch series, though somewhat formulaic, are a cut above most detective novels。 Entertaining reads for sure

Back to another Bosch and was I not disappointed。 These stories are like falling into a comfy bed for me at this point。 Bosch is back on the force working cold cases。 His first one: the murder of a 16 year old girl。 As the pieces come together, the trail leads him into conflict with an old nemesis in the department。 Had the case purposely gone unsolved? Bosch doesn't care whose toes he steps on if it means getting to the truth。 Back to another Bosch and was I not disappointed。 These stories are like falling into a comfy bed for me at this point。 Bosch is back on the force working cold cases。 His first one: the murder of a 16 year old girl。 As the pieces come together, the trail leads him into conflict with an old nemesis in the department。 Had the case purposely gone unsolved? It just flows so much better for me with Bosch back where he belongs, pursuing his mission as an LAPD Homicide Detective!

Very good, much more of a police procedural than a action/adventure novel, Bosch is back with LAPD which feels right, I’m a fan of the TV series and love the fact that there’s enough of a difference between the show and the novels to keep it all fresh and new。 Now on to the Lincoln Lawyer。
